Battersea Power Station
On 21 Oct 2006 we visited Battersea Power Station, ostensibly to see the Serpentine Gallery's exhibition "China Power Station: Part 1".
We were able to go inside the central boiler room; the original turbine hall, Turbine Hall A on the west side; and climb up into the rooms above Turbine Hall B on the east side.
We learned that the building was not designed as a single entity, although both parts were designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The western half was completed in 1939, and, to increase capacity, the eastern half was added between 1953 and 1955.
